Sockeye season in full swing!
Brewster Sockeye in full swing!
We are right in the midst of a record sockeye run right here in North Central Washington on the Upper Columbia river and later Lake Wenatchee. After a springer season that saw its highs and lows with some amazing fishing and also some trying days, we are on to some red hot sockeye and kings fishing! We are starting at the "Brewster Pool" right where the warm Okanogan river empties into cooler Upper Columbia River. We are targeting sockeye which so far are the largest average size I have ever seen in the "pool." We are targeting them using Money Maker sockinator hoochies and Free Drifter Flies as well some bead spinners. As always we are tipping them with our own special recipe coon shrimp in Pautzke cures. Targeting depths from 8 feet to 35 feet down with down riggers and also with dropper weights. Right now the fishing is good with limits everyday so far and it still fresh fish filling up the pool everyday. Next in line is Lake Wenatchee sockeye! We are expecting a record run on Lake Wenatchee this year with over a 100,000 fish! WDFW announced that it will be an announced opening this year when there is 25, 000 fish in the system which I am guessing will happen in late July. Lake Wenatchee is a no bait no barbs fishery so bare red hooks are the old standby but different seasons bring different changes so we will see. I am looking forward to an expected excellent season up there.
Next up on is fall run kings in the Hanford Reach stretch of the Columbia River. If you are into big takedowns from large kings this is the fishery for you. Booking trips now for this fishery that will run form September 15 till October 15.
