Kokanee and walleye on the bite!
Its already Mid June and the kokanee and walleye bite are both reaching there peaks! With the water warming up the fish have their feed bags on and are on the bite. Lake Chelan kokanee is about as good as it will be all year with quick limits and fun fishing. We are fishing shallow right now not even using downriggers on most off the rods which makes for some very fun fishing! With kokanee up to the 16” mark and a liberal limit of 10 per person it makes for a nice big bag of bright, red meat fillets. We are running Rocky Mountain Tackle Company 5.5 dodgers with RMT plankton mini hoochies and Freeddrifter trolling flies along with homemade spinners. The bite is fast and ferious right now making it a great time to take kids and others that don’t fish allot or just doing have much patience:)
The walleye bite has been and continues to be one of the bestI have seen in a few years. I have been spending lots of time at Moses Lake and now transitioning to Banks Lake as the water warms up and we get a great post spawn bite there. Moses Lake was a great time this year with limits of walleye as the rule and so far Banks Lake has proved to be just as good! The crank bait bite has been good as well as the worm harnesses right on bottom. With a limit of 8 fish you end up with a nice bag of flaky, white meat fillets. Walleye should be great fishing right up to July 1 when we will start honing in on prized Summer run Chinook.
So July 1 we will start targeting prized summer Chinook! Summer Chinook are a highly sought after for not just the great fight they provide but one of the best fish around to eat. Their bright red meat, thick fillets, and high fat content make them an absolute prize. These fish range from 12 up to almost 40 pounds so hold on tight and be ready for a battle and memories that will last a lifetime. We will be fishing these fish in the Upper Columbia river, in the Chelan Falls area as well as Brewster Pool. All these fisheries will book out solid but right now we do dates available with even a few weekends but book now as they will fill up.
